Make it a summer to remember—send a child to Y camp 🌞 |
|
|
|
|
Last summer more than 550 youth attended Y camps here in Eugene, preventing “summer slide”—the decline in academic skills experienced by youth, who can lose 20 to 30% of their reading and math gains over the summer, particularly young children and those from low-income families. Add to those academic benefits the experiences, friendships and memories kids take with them from camp, and it all stacks up as a powerful force for good.
For many, the opportunity is only possible because of financial assistance fueled by donor support. |

|
Make it DOUBLE!
Right now, your generosity goes twice as far. Thanks to a $30,000 match from the Gregory-Greenberg Children’s Foundation, every dollar you give by Jun. 9 to send a youth to camp will be matched—doubling your impact and opening the door for twice as many campers! |

Summer at the Y—what to expect! As summer camp season begins, you’ll notice more youth and activity around the facility. We appreciate your patience and support as we create a fun and safe experience for all!
🛑 Parking lot safety Please drive carefully, especially during busy drop-off (7 to 9 a.m.) and pick-up (4 to 6 p.m.) times. Expect increased traffic with families and campers.
☀️ Hot, rainy or smoky weather When weather conditions become extreme—whether it’s very hot, rainy or smoky—camp activities may move indoors to keep youth safe and comfortable. This can impact gym spaces and other areas of the facility. We appreciate your flexibility! 👕 Join the Fun – dress-up days! Campers celebrate with themed days each week:
Mondays—Y shirt day Wednesdays—tie-dye day Members are welcome to join in the fun if you have Y gear or tie-dye!
📆 Space and schedule updates Some program areas will be dedicated to camp activities throughout the summer: Kalapuya Room—Camp use, weekdays
Creation Station & Corner Hut—Youth programming all day Check the app or posted schedules for the latest updates.
🍳 Camper-of-the-Week Friday breakfasts From Jun. 22 to Aug. 28, each Friday from 8 to 8:45 a.m. we celebrate our Campers-of-the-Week in the Lobby. Youth Protection at the Y, June focus
June is Pride Month and National Safety Month—a reminder that safety includes belonging and identity affirmation. At the Y, we respect and affirm every youth’s identity and work to create spaces where all feel welcome. Families can reinforce this by listening closely to your youth’s experiences, using the names and pronouns they share, and encouraging kindness toward others. Ask questions like:
What makes you feel proud of who you are?
What helps you feel included?
When youth feel safe to be themselves, they engage more fully, take healthy risks, and build stronger relationships. Our staff promote a culture of dignity and respect—where differences are recognized as strengths and harassment or teasing is addressed quickly. Together, families and the Y can model what true safety looks like: a community where every youth belongs 💙 |
