Urgent need to fill SNAP shortfall

Up to 28,000 Birmingham households could suffer if SNAP benefits end this weekend due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. The Levite JCC — in cooperation with the Birmingham Jewish Federation and Foundation, CJFS, Temple Beth-El, Temple Emanu-El, the Alabama Holocaust Education Center, the N.E. Miles Jewish Day School, Knesseth Israel, and the city governments of Mountain Brook and Birmingham — will serve as a collection point for financial and food donations beginning Sunday. Before we go...

GETTING THE FULL PICTURE — On Tuesday, CEO Brooke Bowles (at right) guided a facility tour for National Christian Foundation board members. The group was at The J for their board meeting, during which they considered renewing their donation to The J specifically for security expenses. In addition to interacting with the Birmingham firefighter seen here (which is when the NCF board learned about complimentary memberships for first responders), the group also noticed the American Red Cross blood drive and met members of the Roz Feigelson Circle of Life Knitting Group plus members from Glenwood, one of our institutional partners that provides autism and behavioral health services. "I can't imagine a better time for our NCF friends to have visited and seen so much of what we do here," Brooke says.
