Tu B’Shvat celebration to feature genealogy, films, flora sale

The Jewish holiday Tu B’Shvat, also known as the Jewish New Year for the Trees, is February 2. In celebration of this year’s holiday, we will host a genealogy class, two film screenings (including The Lorax and Southern Exposure documentaries), and a display/sale of flora in the lobby. All events are free and open to the public.

Starting Jan. 30, the lobby will be filled with fancy flora courtesy of Collier's Nursery. "We just love how for the past few years their displays have filled the lobby with lush, decorative greenery," says Shannon Brasovan, chief experience officer here at The J. "And everything will be for sale for folks to take home." Get details and RSVP...

SUNDAY EXTRAVAGANZA — Sunday saw the community's first-ever Jewish Birmingham Joint Annual Meeting. This gathering brought together five institutions: the Birmingham Jewish Federation and Foundation, the Levite Jewish Community Center, the N.E. Miles Jewish Day School, Collat Jewish Family Services, and the Alabama Holocaust Education Center. We reflected on 2025, celebrated outstanding community members, welcomed new leaders, and shared our visions for the year ahead. We're grateful that we were able to come together in unity, purpose, and community.
