Celebrating 250 years of American Jewish military service

From America’s earliest days of independence through the end of World War II, many American Jews saw military service as essential to their success and acceptance in the new nation. Because Jewish loyalty was often questioned, participation in America’s armed forces became a powerful way for both immigrants and native-born Jews to prove their patriotism to their neighbors and to advance in American society. Before we go...

AND THE WINNER IS... Some 175 people filled Pizitz Auditorium last night for our much-anticipated presentation of the "That's So Jewish" live quiz show put on by New York comedians Eitan Levine and Max Ash. The night's contestants — Shoshana Stoll, Andy Saag, and Amanda Goldstein Marks — fielded questions under the categories Jewish or antisemitic, bad movie reviews, Jew or not a Jew, Russian oligarch or just a guy from my synagogue, and more. After multiple rounds, Amanda emerged as the winner. The event was made possible in part by the Epsman Fund at the Birmingham Jewish Foundation.
