LEAD STORY

Courtyard dedication to honor Legacy Members

Join us on Sunday, October 19, 2-4 p.m. as we gather to celebrate one of our community’s most unique and valuable assets: our Legacy Members — folks who have been involved with The J for forty or more years. The event will center around the dedication of The J’s newest space: the Hess Library “Legacy Members” Courtyard. Get the details and learn more about this group of treasured individuals...

Fit Floor closed for refit starting Monday

The Fitness Floor will be closed Monday, Oct. 13, to Wednesday, Oct. 22, as we finally begin a much-anticipated renovation. The project will include new paint and flooring plus overall reorganization along with the installation of some new equipment. Read about alternative options for members, including use of UAB's Recreation Center...

New tai chi class

Longtime tai chi instructor Galina Waites is adding Yang-style tai chi — the most widely practiced style — to our group fitness schedule here at The J on Wednesdays at 12:15 p.m. Participants will study and practice the most popular Yang-style short competition forms while learning some tai chi history and principles along the way. To participate, LJCC members can simply show up for the class. Previous tai chi or any other martial arts experience is helpful but not required.

Galina also teaches a tai chi for arthritis and fall prevention class through United Way. See more group fitness offerings...

Before we go...

SUKKOT SCHOOL — Shannon Brasovan, chief experience officer at The J (and part of our Office of Jewish Life crew) recently spent some time teaching children from the Cohn Early Childhood Learning Center about the current Sukkot holiday. They learned about the lulav and etrog and built their own sukkah models. Learn more about the holiday (and watch The LEGO Sukkot Movie!) here...
