GIVING BACK — Earlier today LJCC CEO Brooke Bowles (second from left) was flanked by Matthew Banker and Abby McNeill, who presented her with a check for The J from the Birmingham Jewish Federation's Young Leadership program. Riva Cullinan (at right), NextGen leadership and engagement manager at the BJF, served as the Young Leadership program manager. The group's final exercise saw them collectively decide where to donate $3,600 of their own donations and matching BJF funds, which ended up being split between The J and the N.E. Miles Jewish Day School. "We liked the Jewish roots but also the community feeling of this organization," Matthew told Brooke. "A lot of people in our group felt very moved by what The J is doing." The aging of Jewish Birmingham and the importance of engaging youth also factored into the discussion, Abby added, "and The J is doing a great job of being a welcoming place for all ages."
