Youth Protection at your Y
February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, and learning about healthy relationships starts long before dating years. At the Y, we help youth recognize that respect, kindness and fairness are the building blocks of safe friendships and peer relationships. Families can reinforce this at home by talking about what it looks like to listen well, share, and treat others the way we want to be treated. Try asking: What does a healthy friendship look like to you?
What's a red flag that makes you uncomfortable?
Encourage your youth to trust their instincts, set boundaries and ask for support when needed. Remind them that it is always okay to say "no" and to seek a safe adult. Our staff model positive interactions daily and step in when behaviors cross the line.
Together, we can equip youth with language and strategies to protect their well‑being, recognize unhealthy patterns early, and build strong, respectful relationships that support safety and belonging 🧡 |
