Youth Protection and No Babysitting

The safety and well-being of youth in our care is our highest priority. We follow strict policies and best practices to create safe, supportive environments for all youth. This includes comprehensive staff and volunteer screening, ongoing training, active supervision, and clear boundaries in all interactions.

All YMCA employees and volunteers are mandatory reporters 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and are required by law to report any suspicion of child abuse or neglect to the proper authorities. We also have a strict no babysitting and no outside-Y contact policy to protect both youth and staff from situations that could compromise safety or boundaries.

We encourage families to partner with us by sharing concerns, asking questions and speaking up if something doesn’t feel right. Together, we can ensure every youth feels safe, valued and protected in YMCA programs.

Here is our No Outside Contact with Youth Policy:

YMCA employees and volunteers may not have outside contact or communication with any minors (under age 18) who are currently enrolled in YMCA programs or whom they met through YMCA programming. This policy applies both during and after a youth’s participation in Y programs.

All contact between YMCA employees/volunteers and youth must happen only during approved YMCA programs and activities.

YMCA staff and volunteers may not:

•    Babysit youth they met through the Y
•    Drive youth (non-family) in personal vehicles
•    Tutor, coach or meet with youth outside of YMCA programming
•    Maintain contact with youth after their participation in Y programs ends
•    Communicate with youth via:
         Social media
         Text messages or personal email
         Online games or gaming platforms
•    Engage in mentorship that is not part of an approved YMCA program

These boundaries are in place to protect youth, staff and the integrity of the YMCA. All relationships must remain professional and program-based.

If you have any questions regarding Youth Protection, please email Holly at holly@eugeneycma.org.
